Curriculum

The K-3 curriculum is designed to give the students a solid foundation in all subjects.  We utilize traditional direct instruction curricula and combine that with project-based learning to create an environment where critical thinking is encouraged and success is measured one student at a time.  The “lense” from which all subjects are taught comes from an Afrocentric perspective.  Each student engages in his/her culture(s) and learns about how their culture is connected in the global world we live in.

Curriculum
The foundation of Zion Prep starts with the 3 R’s.  We understand that at its core, students need to know how to read, write, and do basic mathematics.  We use the following curriculum to accomplish the foundational aspects of an education at Zion Prep:

Reading – Reading Mastery (SRA/McGraw Hill), Houghton Mifflin Reading (2005)

Math – Connecting Math Concepts (SRA/McGraw Hill), Houghton Mifflin Math (2005)

Writing – Step Up to Writing, Writer’s Workshop

Additional Classes
In addition to the primary and advanced classes, students at Zion also take classes in:

- Bible
- P.E./Health
- Library
- Social Studies
- Science
